Habe deshalb immer ne Steckkarte nachgerüstet.
Aktuell aufm Dual-King sogar mit VIA-Chipsatz - funktioniert
genauso flott wie die USB vom Notebook (ca. 25MB/s auf 3.5" HD,
17MB/s auf 2.5" HD im Mittel)

Aktuell habe ich mich vom 1080p-HD-MediaPlayer verabschiedet. Habe eine
WD HD ausprobiert. Eine MKV-Datei mit 8GB Größe war nicht
vernünftig abzuspielen. (2.5" FP direkt angeschlossen)

Habe mich dann wieder auf DIVX-Dateien mit 1024x768 Bildpunkten
verlagert. (Codec h263 optimized, quality based) Sieht auf meinem
42" HD-Fernseher richtig klasse aus.

Zum streamen reicht sogar mein Upload von 2.5MBit übers Internet
meistens aus.(Nur analoge Filme patzen - Rauschen lässt sich eben nicht
gut komprimieren)
CPU-Power ist auch nicht nötig. PIII ab 800MHZ absolut
ohne Probleme.

Gilt für die neueren nicht mehr.
Besitze auch zwei ältere VIA-USB2-Modelle,
die instabil und langsam (ca. 3MB/s) sind - allerdings auch von ca. 2001.

Kann ich so nicht nachvollziehen. So alle anderthalb bis zwei Jahre wage ich es, mich wieder mit irgendwelchen Via-Komponenten auseinanderzusetzen. Zuletzt im vergangenenen Sommer, in dem ich zwei P3-Rechner mit weiteren USB-Schnittstellen ausstatten wollte. Die beiden USB2.0-Karten mit Via-Chip drauf sind zwei Tage nach Erwerb zurück zum Händler gegangen und mit geringem Aufpreis gegen solche mit NEC-Chip getauscht wurden. Die tun wenigstens das, was sie sollen.

Nach fast zwanzig Jahren Computerbastelei sollte ich es eigentlich besser wissen: Wenn Via draufsteht - Finger weg.

Mein letztes Projekt war ein Dual-PIII-S mit CUV4X-DLS von Asus - auch
mit VIA-Chipsatz.
Board machte am Anfang div. Probleme :

1) Ein RAM-Baustein war defekt. (1GB ECC-RAM :burn: )
2) Sound-Karte hatte keinen richtigen Kontakt - leicht schräg im Slot.
durch "verbiegen" der Schraublasche behoben.
3) nach längerem Rippen von CD´s hing sich das Ding auf - 40pol.
Kabel gegen 80pol. ausgetauscht.

Seit diesen "Modifikationen" läuft der PC ausgesprochen sauber und
stabil. Dank HD 3650 sogar 1080p mkv-Dateien ohne Probleme
abspielbar.

USB2.0-Karte habe ich für 7,-Euro bei Amazon wg. der Rezessionen
erworben - als sie kam und ich den VIA-Chip sah befürchtete ich
bereits das schlimmste - läuft aber in dieser Kombination auch mit
2.5" USB-Platten ohne Netzanschluß stabil und schnell.
